4 Things I Learned from Rory Gilmore

The Gilmores may not be perfect but they know their stuff.

"If you date him, you'll break up, and we'll never be able to eat there again."

Rory Gilmore is hands down, my absolute favourite fictional TV character ever. From her naive Chilton days, all the way to her attending Ivy-League school, Yale University, I was there for it all, thanks to Netflix. With school back in session, it can be difficult to get back into the swing of things with ease. Although Rory is only a fictional TV character, I learned a great deal from her, and I’m here to share it with you all with the help of my favourite Rory Gilmore quotes, straight from Gilmore Girls to help inspire you to put your best foot forward, and up your work ethic.

1. “A Little Nervous Breakdown Can Really Work Wonders For A Girl.”

Being the perfectionist that I am, I try my best to make sure my work is done to the best of my ability. However, there have been those times where whatever I do just seems to fall flat, and I get a tad screamy and sit there with my brows furrowed. But if I do learn anything from that breakdown, it’s that it was much needed, and now that I’ve got it all out of my system, I can get back to work with a different approach.

2. “Who Cares If I’m Pretty If I Fail My Finals!”

I agree with Rory, who cares? If you fail your finals, you have lots more to lose whether it’s that spot on the honour roll, or respect from your teachers because they thought you had it “in the bag”. When going into a final, please feel your best mentally, and I guarantee the results will be ten times better if you spend those extra forty minutes studying note cards versus curling your hair. It can be difficult, but having a clear mind-set will help you positively in the long run.

3. “What She Tackles, She Conquers.”

Said by the lovely Richard Gilmore and a quote I intend to live by. Back in Rory’s anti-Yale days, she helped out her grandmother (the fabulous Emily Gilmore) with a D.A.R event. Emily was unsure, and Richard assured her, and Rory delivered phenomenally. The event was spectacular, because Rory threw herself into the project, putting all her energy into it. This is how I intend to take every project, and quite frankly, anything I ever do. Once I get my hands on it, it’s going to be a masterpiece that I complete.

4. "Copper Boom!"

I may or may not have just thrown this in here for a laugh. But according to Urban Dictionary, it means "Quickening your pace or getting down to business or work." I can't be the only one that still says things to themselves to get them back on track (at least I hope I'm not). Hearing this when Rory moved into Yale was hilarious, but really does help me get back on track. Shouting something random tends to help me forget that YouTube video and focus on what I really need to do. Thank you, Lorelai Gilmore.
