Monthly Favourites: July Beauty
Looking back on this month, any beauty product that I decided to try out managed to establish itself as a favorite of mine. These are some of those products.
As a black girl who wears her natural hair, I’ve always struggled to find the best possible products to use on it while keeping it healthy. Throughout this year, I’ve mostly used Shea Moisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie. It smells like a dream and definitely increases my curl definition while limiting frizz. However, this month, I discovered TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock Amplifier which changed the game for my hair. It makes my hair feel so soft and defines my 4a-4b curl pattern really well. It has a clean, sweet smell which is never overpowering. This product is so powerful that using too much of it will make your curls crunchy so finding a balance of how much product you need is important.
LIPS This month I’ve bought more lip products than I have ever before. David Cosmetics is a South Korean cosmetics line and their lip liners are so versatile. The set I bought came with 12 lip liners, each of them wearable and pigmented. I was especially surprised to see how brown girl friendly and inexpensive they were. I’ve really been looking for my perfect matte lip this month and to achieve this purchased a soft matte lip cream in the color ‘Cannes’. It is an easy product to use when I'm in a rush, but can require a tad more blending on my upper lip where it can look patchy. Overall, I’m very impressed with the amount of moisture my lips have when wearing it, despite it being a matte. This month I also bought Golden Rose Velvet Matte Lipstick in the color ‘Congo Brown’ which also leaves my lips feeling moisturized. This lipstick is extremely long lasting and will leave it’s dark purple pigment on your lips all day.
FACE My go-to base for my makeup is Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer. This moisturizer evens out any discoloration on my face and eliminates redness. Its creamy formula makes my skin look smooth and distracts from any acne. Another favorite in the face category isn’t technically face makeup. It’s Makeup Forever’s Skin Equalizer which works well as a primer aimed to smooth out small bumps and hide large pores.
Finally, I purchased my first setting spray from NYX this past month and I’m already obsessed. After watching numerous makeup tutorials, I finally succumbed to a setting sprays’ role in completing a look. I am happy to report that the propaganda is absolutely true. With NYX Cosmetics Makeup Setting Spray my makeup lasts all day looking just as fresh as it did when first applied. Also, my skin isn’t nearly oily as it typically is after a long day in the heat of summer. (Not to mention that setting spray on highlighter equals a complete sparkle fest.)
