In A Well Ordered Universe
“Real friends are the ones you can count on no matter what. The ones who go into the forest to find you and bring you home. And real friends never have to tell you that they’re your friends.” ― Morgan Matson, Since You've Been Gone
This photo series was inspired by one of my all time favourite books: Since You've Been Gone By Morgan Matson. The story was incredibly charming and sentimental - my heart continues to speed up when I read quotes by the adorable characters.
In the novel, Sloane, Emily's best friend, goes missing, leaving nothing behind but a list. It is a list of things to do that are completley out of Emily's comfot zone, including things like "Kiss a Stranger" and "Go skinny dipping". The story actually changed my outlook on life and helped me understand relationships a little bit better. Although the book's plot doesn't include a lot of Sloane, I included her in this shoot because the two of them are best when they are together. The images have a "disposable camera" feel to them because the characters love to use them to document their lives.
[ If I were to re-shoot this, I would have shot at the flea market, drive-in and other various settings where the book takes place. ]
“It was like she knew a secret, a good one, and if you got close enough, maybe she'll tell you, too.”
“But it always felt like nothing had really happened until I’d talked to Sloane about it.”
“I looked like someone who'd had a night, and had a story to tell about it.”
