"I Kinda have a
thing for fairies."
Coffee shops with hidden bookshelves, surrounded by an ambience of laughter, are definitely the perfect setting for an interview with our February cover girl Hanbi Bae.
Yes everyone, that is her real name and I don’t think I’ll ever let her live It down It’s so awesome! Quiet but buzzing, 16 year old, Hanbi always knew she loved art. “I’ve been doing it all of my life, and just as a writer is inspired to write after looking at something, hearing music or experiencing something, I get inspired to make art” when asked to explain her love for the craft.
Becoming more serious in ninth grade, she began creating portraits of people drawing her inspiration from the likes of Kurt Cobaine, Angelina Jolie and many others. One in particular - - helped to guide Hanbi’s art in a different direction. An Artist and Model's whimsical art style led Hanbi to take up a similar style and expand her portfolio. Her current artwork is based on a lot of folk art fairy tales and as she puts it “I kinda have a thing for faeries”. The three of us shared our love for black fine tip markers over some coffee (or in my case hot chocolate);.
When asked about her plans for the future she laughs, “Right now my life is about getting through every single day actually. But I hope I’ll be doing something that I enjoy and I hope to be content even with the ups and downs of life.” But she seemed fond of the idea of Traveling Europe.
Meet Hanbi - a super adorable,
incredibly talented super girl!
“I’ve been doing it all of my life, and just as a writer is inspired to write after looking at something, hearing music or experiencing something, I get inspired to make art.”
What's your style:
"My style is mostly affected by my mood, for example: if I feel creative one day, I might wear patterns and flowy materials. It's also inspired by the past, especially the 60's and 90's. I also like adding hints of character to my outfits - like Audrey Hepburn or a ballerina or other movie characters. Ha! My style varies alot."
"I like making things that are healthy but still taste good. Most of the time they turn out okay..."
GOING BEYOND THE
“Eventually soul mates meet, for they have the same hiding place.”
The quote that influenced our February cover created by Hanbi. Most of her pieces, she says, are first quotes from poems or stories.
When we saw her rough draft of this drawing we literally squealed with excitement! It is beautifully simple and goes well with the magazine!
We love you Hanbi! You're definitley our kind of girl!
